Intent
The intend of the crush test is to subject the optical cable to crushing or clamping forces that could occeur during installation, operation, or maintenance. The cable could be crushed to the extent of adversely affecting the optical signals.
Objective
- To verify the mechanical integrity of the optical cable and the supporting hardware when subjected to crush forces.
- To verify the optical performance of the optical cable when subjected to crush forces
Setup
The crush test shall be carried out on a sample of cable according to the method provided by TIA-455-41 (FOTP-41).
Acceptance criteria
The maximum attenuation increases during load or after release of load shall not exceed 0.1dB at 1550nm for any single-mode fiber under test
