CKT-1000 SERIES
Optical Cable Kink Testing Machine

UNIVER CKT-1000 Series Optical Cable Kink Testing Machine is designed to determine the minimum loop diameter at which an optical fiber cable begins to kink. The system applies a controlled bending force to the cable sample, allowing precise identification of the onset of kinking and evaluation of the cable’s mechanical flexibility and structural integrity under looped conditions.

Knowledge

Object
The purpose of this test is to determine the minimum loop diameter at which an optical fiber cable begins to kink.
Note: Testing has shown that the results of this procedure exhibit limited reproducibility. It is therefore recommended that this method be used with caution and that any specified minimum kink requirement be conservative.

Apparatus
No specific apparatus is required for this test. However, it is recommended to loosely restrain the cable at the crossing point of the loop to maintain alignment during testing.

Procedure
Unless otherwise specified, testing shall be performed under standard atmospheric conditions.

  1. Form a loop with the cable sample (see Figure 12).
  2. Gradually reduce the loop diameter by slowly pulling on both ends of the cable until kinking begins (see Figure 13). The applied forces at the bottom of the loop shall act within a single plane.
  3. When kinking is observed, stop pulling.
  4. Measure the length of cable in the loop (C), starting and ending at the crossover point.
  5. Calculate the equivalent loop diameter (d) using the formula:d=C/π
